Responding to the earthquakes in Syria
Since February 6, multiple earthquakes and aftershocks hit Turkey and Syria,
killing, injuring, and displacing thousands of people in the middle of a winter storm.
In Syria, the earthquakes come on top of a cholera outbreak and a severe
economic and humanitarian crisis caused by nearly 12 years of devastating war.
Since the earthquakes struck, our Syrian partner churches in Aleppo, Hama, Lattakia, and Tartous governorates
have identified the urgent need for food, hygiene, blankets and winter clothes
for around 4,200 displaced and crisis-affected households residing in collective shelters, schools, or other community shelters.
Discover below how we are supporting them.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE
4200
households supplied with food, winter clothes, blankets, and hygiene items
As of March 15, MERATH facilitated the delivery of 7,500 blankets, 6,000 pullovers, 2,600 winter jackets, 8,500 food rations, 8,500 hygiene kits, and 7,000 bags of diapers to over 20 churches, mainly in Aleppo, and Latakia. The churches distributed these items to thousands of families now residing in shelters, schools, or other community shelters, bringing them some comfort and putting smiles back on the faces of children.

LONG TERM RESPONSE
1000
households provided with essential food and hygiene assistance
Given that the need for humanitarian assistance will persist beyond the initial emergency response phase, MERATH aims to continue providing essential food and hygiene assistance to 1,000 crisis-affected families across Aleppo, Hama, Lattakia, and Tartous governorates.
