Child-friendly space in Syria

MEET NAWAL

“My name is Nawal and I am 45 years old. My husband is 50 years old and we have a 13 year old son, which goes to the child friendly space of our neighborhood in Syria, where I also benefit from counseling.
The area we live in has been at the center of the conflict for a long time and is a very dangerous place. We were internally displaced at one time because of armed militias entering our area. After a while we could return but the area is still being bombarded most of the time. It is very poor and completely disordered.
It is hard to raise children in such an environment, one does not know who he can trust in the neighborhood. This is why we would never let our son play outside and he stayed most of time at home.
This child friendly space is the only place where he can breathe! And I feel comfortable knowing he is there. I trust that he is safe and protected there, and can play as much as he wants.
For the first time, in this place I met people who care about us and feel concerned about us. I very much needed someone to talk to to deal with the problems I am facing, especially with my child and about my relationship with my husband. We fight a lot and our son is witnessing it all. I sometimes feel he is more mature than both of us!
I hope I can continue to receive parental counseling which will help me provide better for my child. I hope this child friendly space in Syria will continue to provide for my son and I because we are in very crucial need of this assistance.”

This child friendly space is the only place where he can breathe! And I feel comfortable knowing he is there. I trust that he is safe and protected there, and can play as much as he wants. For the first time in this place I met people who care about us and feel concerned about us.
