“When I started working at my church relief center in Syria, I was myself internally displaced from the old city of Homs. Due to my father being an American citizen, I had the opportunity to flee to the USA but I did not because I felt a responsibility towards the most vulnerable in Syria, my own country! Around us, so many internally displaced people were in need of everything! Most of them came only with their pajamas because they had to flee Syria by night, escaping armed groups.

The relief center of the church started distributing food assistance, hygiene kits and kitchen supplies. Then we extended our work to medical projects, scholarships, financial support, winterization and psychosocial support for the elderly and kids. We have been supported by MERATH (Middle East Revive & Thrive) in many of those relief and development projects. The help is incredibly appreciated and life changing in many cases.

We have at heart to remind people of their value and help them keep their human dignity as much as possible. The help we are providing is never just material, it makes people feel cared for and it helps them emotionally too.”
