MEET HASSAN

“My name is Hassan and I am from Syria. I live here in Lebanon with my sister and my two sons, Hussein and Ali.

Their mother had a heart attack almost a year ago, and she passed away when our boys were 6 and 8 years old.

My sister came from Syria to help us but she is both deaf and mute and the transition was difficult. My boys were mourning their mother and used to get very easily frustrated as they could not communicate with my sister.

I was badly injured in my leg back in Syria and almost lost it. The doctors managed to save the bone but now I cannot bend it at all, making it impossible for me to do physical work. This is why we have no source of income.

The boys are very young and I want them to stay in school, where they enjoy going and have excellent grades.

Hussein likes Maths and Arabic and he wants to be an engineer. Ali wants to be a doctor and he likes soccer. When they are not in school, they like playing outside and taking care of the chickens.

The church here gives us food vouchers every month. If we ever need some additional help, the Pastor brings us food in person. In winter the church also gave us some mattresses, blankets and some other items.

These food vouchers really are our daily bread. Our life would be much harder without them. All in all, I thank God for the church and that I’m still alive to be there for my young kids.
